“Euripides' finest tragedy explores the very depths of the human psyche, religious experience and raw, unrestrained power”

Castle Theatre Company

SUMMARY

Thebes is in crisis; religious persecution implemented by the new king, Pentheus, has brought the wrath of the god Dionysus upon the city. Possessed by the god the women have fled, raving, into the mountains to join the ever-growing ranks of Bacchic women. Angry at Pentheus' attacks upon his followers the god takes human form and descends to earth to deal with the upstart king himself.

Euripides' finest tragedy explores the very depths of the human psyche, religious experience and raw, unrestrained power.
